Setting NIM Free

When I think back to why I made NIM in the first place, I kind of laugh. I made a store addon for my site, but then I remembered that I had nothing to sell in it. And that is how NIM was born. I have come to realize that the one thing holding NIM back was the fact that it cost money, an aspect many people do not agree with. I believe that you should be able to sell addons for nuke, but most people will not buy them. This is why I have decided to release NIM for free. It is not going to be an opensource type thing, it will just not cost any money to use it. This is to prevent people from taking it and calling it there own. Please come back in the next few days for more information, or Contact Us for more information.

YAU! (Yet Another Update) 8-18-06

Seeing that today marks the 203rd day since 6.1 was released, I have decided to let you all in on the current progress of Nuke Instant Messenger. It was decided a while ago that the next version of NIM had to be re-designed from the ground up in order to be more flexible when it came to adding new features. This in turn led to the announcement that the next version of Nuke Instant Messenger would be 7.0.

NIM 7.0 will be re-written from the ground up, just as 6.0 had been, and will be written using classes to better support the new features being added. This will also lead to less memory usage from NIM because now most of the data used can be cached and will prevent re-querying the database.

The other thing is that NIM will have full theming support. This will mean that NIM will no longer use the built in theme functions such as title(), opentable(), and closetable(). In the beginning this will be somewhat of a pain to new users but will allow for more flexibility for seasoned nuke operators.

PHP-Nuke 8.0 will be coming out any time now so assuming that NIM 7.0 comes out before that happens we will put out a new update available a short time later. If PHP-Nuke 8.0 comes out before NIM 7.0 does, then NIM 7.0 will have full 8.0 support, assuming that FB does not screw up PHP-Nuke that much.

If you have any questions regarding Nuke Instant Messenger 7.0, please feel free to contact us either through the forums or by Clicking Here.

We are in the middle of adding some new content to the site so if you come here and something seems to be broken, just give it a few minutes and it should be cleared up. I am going to launch a new demo site for the testing version of Nuke Instant Messenger 7.0, that way you can see some of the changes that are coming up. To see the demo site just Click Here.

Update April 5, 2006

As I was going through and changing NIM 6.2 to add news features such as user banning by admins, I have decided that I need to go by more of a phpBB file structure. What this means is that the main version number needs to change, so this is the official anouncement that the next version of Nuke Instant Messenger will be 7.0.

On that note, I am severly running low on time in order to develop Nuke Instant Messenger, as well as the multiple other addons that I have started but have yet to finish. So again if you are looking to improve your PHP skills then please contact me, so that I an get you set up with the code as well as some webspace and an email address.

I have a spare server with 3gig/100gig so by all means if you have something to host then please contact me and I will be happy to help out. Last month it was used to host a Linux Distro, and went over by 24gigs (oops).

Another useless update containing one or more pieces of good news.

Hey everyone. This is just an update on the current status of Gnaunited.com. It has come to my attention that people are still purchasing Nuke Instanty Messenger. This is very good news because it means that there is now a guaranteed version 6.2.0 that will come out very soon. And by soon I mean sometime this year.

I am also jumping on the bandwagon and have opened a "better" wiki than the one currently available. It will in no way be compatible with the site as is, which means that you probably might want to register at the wiki also. It can be found at http://wiki.gnaunited.com. I just made it like 10 minutes ago so it is lacking almost everything that a good wiki has.

The third thing that I would like to announce is that I am planning to make a My Uploads style addon, made from the ground up. It is going to be better than My Uploads, contain more features, and tell you that the file did not upload because Safe Mode is enabled and you need to get a new host. Well, probably not the last one, but it will have better error checking.

That is the last of the announcements, but please keep checking back for more information as to the status of the development team.

Any misspellings in this publication are probably the computer's fault somehow, and do not reflect the intellegence of the author. Really.

Should Nuke Instant Messenger 6.0 be released under a non commercial license?

I am tinkering with the idea of releasing NIM 6.0 under a free license. I will go around and find and fix all of the bugs in it, but will not add any new features. NIM 6.2+ will still be a payed version for everyone that needs more power. Please give us some feedback on whether or not this is a good idea.
